Victor Osimhen has shared his thoughts on captaining the Super Eagles against Uganda in the African Cup of Nations on Tuesday, December 30.

Osimhen, who was celebrating his 27th birthday, was handed the captain’s armband for the first time in the absence of Wilfred Ndidi in the starting eleven.

With qualification already secured, Ndidi was given a rest ahead of the Round of 16 clash against Mozambique.

Osimhen, after the game, described the moment as a dream come true, adding that head coach Eric Chelle had imposed trust in him to lead the team.

The 27-year-old added that his teammates listen to him, and he also gives them an ear.

“It feels so good. For me, it’s beautiful to try to lead the team,” he said.

“I believe I have gained enough experience to lead the team, and the coach trusts me. So they listen to me just as I listen to them.

“For me, it was a huge pleasure and honor because when I led the team out, they won the game, and we also made it to the Round of 16.”
