At 18, Taha Benchekh is living an extraordinary adventure. A law student in Tangier and a passionate basketball fan, this young Moroccan is making history by becoming the youngest volunteer at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025.

“When I saw the announcement on Instagram, I thought, “Why not?”, he recalls. Behind this spontaneous decision lies a deep desire to serve and support others. “I like helping people and guiding them. Participating in this event gives me the opportunity to do so on a large scale,” he explains.

The announcement of his selection was an unforgettable moment. “I was really happy. Being able to contribute and represent my country is a real privilege,” says Benchekh. His role models are close to him: his father and brother instilled in him the idea that commitment and mutual aid are essential. “They showed me that doing good around you is one of the most beautiful ways to fulfil yourself,” he adds.

The volunteer training allowed him to see the AFCON from a new perspective. Between learning about the history of the competition, receiving instructions on how to handle various situations and learning about safety measures, he discovered the importance of every detail in ensuring that an event of this magnitude runs smoothly. “These sessions opened my eyes to the responsibility and impact we can have on the fans' experience,” he says.

Despite his commitment, Benchekh remains a young man with sporting ambitions. His dream is to become a professional basketball player. For him, the experience at the AFCON is not just a logistical role, but a life lesson, with skills that can be transferred to all areas. “It has helped me grow, learn to work in a team and manage responsibilities. These are skills that will serve me well everywhere,” he says.

As Morocco lives through an exceptional experience alongside the whole of Africa, Taha Benchekh embodies the energy, curiosity, and determination of his generation. Driven by a clear vision, he seeks neither the spotlight nor recognition, but impact.
“I want to be remembered as someone who helps and guides others to do good,” he says.
A simple ambition, almost understated, yet one that says a great deal about a generation determined to build rather than to shine.
