Nigeria and Uganda will face off in a decisive Group C fixture of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 on Monday, with qualification still at stake for the Cranes.
Super Eagles go into this clash as firm favourites, having already secured qualification with two wins from their opening group matches.
Uganda, on the other hand, sits third in the group with just one point from two matches and must win to keep their tournament hopes alive.
Head-to-head
This will be only the second meeting between Nigeria and Uganda at the AFCON finals.
Their previous encounter came in the semi-finals of the 1978 tournament, where Uganda recorded a 2–1 victory.
Overall, Uganda hold a slight historical edge, with four wins to Nigeria’s two, while two matches have ended in draws. Uganda are unbeaten in their last three meetings with Nigeria (W2 D1).
Current form
Currently sitting bottom, Uganda have scored two goals so far at AFCON 2025. They have conceded four goals from seven shots on target faced and are winless in their last five AFCON matches.
Eagles, on the other hand, won both games against Tanzania and Tunisia. They have scored in each of their last nine AFCON matches and are aiming to win all three group games for the first time since 2021.
Possible line-ups
With qualification already secured, Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle may rotate his squad ahead of the knockout phase.
He may use goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, defenders, midfielders, and forwards, including Bright Osayi-Samuel, Sanusi, Ogbu, Onyeka, Dele Bashiru, Awaziem, Ejuke, Akinsanmiro, Onuachu, and Nwadika.
Other squad members available include Uzoho, Obasogie, Ndidi, Ajayi, Lookman, Onyemaechi, Muhammed, Iwobi, Bassey, Akoh and Lawal.
