Former Nigeria captain John Mikel Obi has expressed dissatisfaction with the Super Eagles call-ups for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle unveiled his final 28-man squad for the AFCON finals last week, including some notable absentees.
Among the players who didn’t make the cut are Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, Wolves’ Tolu Arokodare, Crystal Palace’s Christiantus Uche and Celtic’s Kelechi Iheanacho.
Speaking on his podcast, former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi stated that the right players were not invited for the tournament, hinting at a possible external influence on the selection.
“I don’t think the right players are being selected from what I hear,” the former midfielder said on his Obi One podcast.
“I think the manager doesn’t have the full authority to select who he wants. I think there’s a lot of influence on his selection,” he added.
Nigeria have been drawn in Group C alongside Tanzania, Uganda and Tunisia.
