Ambassadorial nominee Femi Fani-Kayode has revealed that Nigeria has saved democracy in Africa on numerous occasions.

Fani-Kayode made this known in a social media post following a botched coup in the Republic of Benin.

MyNigeria reported that President Bola Tinubu on Sunday sent fighter jets to restore democracy in Benin after some mutineers announced that they had taken over government.

Reacting, Fani-Kayode revealed that there is no country in Africa that has fought harder and done more for democracy and the African people than Nigeria. "Kudos to our heroes past and to our Armed Forces!" he said.

He added, "We saved democracy, fought injustice and helped to restore law and order in #Tangayika (now #Tanzania) in 1964.

"We saved democracy, fought injustice and helped to restore law and order in #Congo in 1964.

"We saved democracy, fought injustice and helped to restore law and order in #Angola in 1975.
