EXCLUSIVE: Lawyer speaks on 'photos' of Nnamdi Kanu washing toilets in Sokoto prison

Aloy Ejimakor, a counsel to the jailed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed photos depicting his client as a prisoner.

MyNigeria reported that Kanu was jailed by a Federal High Court in Abuja following terrorism charges levelled against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).

He has since been moved from the custody of the DSS to the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Sokoto, where he is serving a life sentence.

Since his transfer to Sokoto prison, some social media users have been circulating photos depicting Kanu in a prison uniform and in a prison environment. Some of the photos showed him sweeping and washing toilets inside the prison.

When MyNigeria reached out to his lawyer, Ejimakor, he said, "The photos are deepfake AI. And it’s self-evident."

He declined further comments on Kanu's well-being in Sokoto prison.

However, in a post on X, Ejimakor revealed that the IPOB leader is enduring his time in prison with resilience, just as the late Nelson Mandela did.

“I just exited from meeting Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in #SokotoPrison.

“He remains indomitable and expressed his profound gratitude to all who have stood by him.

“Like Nelson Mandela endured ‘Robben Island’ & triumphed, #MNK is enduring Sokoto with resilience & strength,” he said.
