Lawyer Aloy Ejimakor has urged Igbo leaders to visit convicted terrorist Nnamdi Kanu in Sokoto prison, where he's currently serving a life sentence.
Kanu was jailed a few days ago after he was convicted by Justice Omotosho of a Federal High Court in Abuja, following terrorism charges levelled against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Since his incarceration, Ejimakor, who was Kanu's lead counsel, has paid the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) a visit in prison. Reports also have it that Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has also visited the IPOB leader, despite a heavy backlash from many Nigerians, who wondered why a sitting governor is sympathising with a jailed terrorist.
However, Ejimakor urged Igbo leaders not to be swayed by criticism, citing instances where former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka visited Yoruba activist Sunday Igboho in prison.
According to him, Igbos should do the same with Kanu, even though Igboho's case has no resemblance to the IPOB leader's predicament.
He shared on X, "Dear Igbo leaders: Rise up, be of good courage & visit MAZI NNAMDI KANU in Sokoto. Emulate Obasanjo, Soyinka & other Yoruba leaders who visited IGBOHO in Benin Republic. They never feared BUHARI because it was a just cause. To #FreeMNK is also a just cause & it’s urgent. Yes!"
