A woman has been confirmed dead following an attack on the convoy of former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, also left two people injured: a police officer and a shop owner.
Fred Chukwulobe, former spokesman for the ex-Minister of Labour, said Ngige was not in the convoy when the attack happened. He explained that a police officer in the pilot vehicle was shot, and his gun and uniform were taken by the assailants, who were reportedly dressed in police and army uniforms.
“Unfortunately, a lady who was recording the shooting was fatally shot by the gunmen,” Chukwulobe said.
He added that a shop owner who rushed to the scene was also shot and lost a significant amount of blood. The victim has undergone surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
According to Chukwulobe, the pilot car was riddled with bullets, but no police officer was killed. The escort leader who sustained gunshot wounds has also undergone surgery and is responding to treatment.
Ngige, upon receiving details of the attack, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured that the injured would receive proper medical attention.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement, and residents have been urged to remain cautious as investigations continue.
