Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has advised anyone who finds himself in prison to exercise humility to stay safe.

According to him, no matter how stubborn a person may think he is, he will meet masters of the game inside prison.

Shehu Sani gave the advice after the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was sentenced to life imprisonment, to be served in Sokoto State.

The former lawmaker, who had in time past served a prison sentence, wrote on X, "The first rule of the prison life is that the moment you enter, be humble and make peace with the Lords inside; that guarantees your safety, and regularly pay your tax to the inside Gofment. If you go there with a degree in stubbornness, you will meet professors inside. If you become ‘loyal’, you’ll make good friends; but don’t be too weak because you’ll still have violent haters. That was the rule during our time."

In another post, he said, “Sentencing a man to life imprisonment is not the end of his life. Some of us have been through life imprisonment and we survived it.

“I served my own life imprisonment in Aba Prisons, Abia State, after spending a year in Kiri Kiri and Port Harcourt prisons.

“The inmates and warders treated me well, except for some few tough guys. There is still room for dialogue to resolve the issue in the interest of peace. Life imprisonment is a phase and not the end.”
