Former Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi has stated that Chelsea's midfield trio of Enzo Fernández, Moisés Caicedo, and Cole Palmer is currently the best in the Premier League.

The Blues have had a fairly decent start to their Premier League campaign, as they currently sit third in the table after recording six wins, two draws, and three losses.

Enzo Maresca's side has been without their talisman, Cole Palmer, who has been sidelined for several weeks.

Palmer has registered 37 goals and 19 assists in the Premier League for the Blues over the last two seasons.

Mikel Obi expressed his delight at the prospect of the former England international returning after the international break.

“When I look at that team and I look at Moisés Caicedo and his partnership with Enzo Fernández — what a partnership that is becoming,” Mikel Obi said on The Obi One Podcast.

“Fernández had his struggles when he came into the club, same as Caicedo. But now you can see that those two are building a great partnership in that midfield.

“You talk about great midfield partnerships — you talk about Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard, me, and the rest of them.

“We can’t talk enough about Caicedo’s performances week in, week out — putting up 9/10, 10/10 performances. It’s so good to see Fernández as well, starting to take his performances to the next level. It’s the consistency that we want to see.

“If you then throw in Cole Palmer in that midfield, that midfield trio is going to be the best trio in the Premier League. I don’t see any trio, in terms of midfield, that is going to beat us when it comes to that.

“Once Cole Palmer comes back, with Caicedo and Fernández in midfield — for me, that’s the best trio in the Premier League,” Mikel added.
