Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has withdrawn a threat to sue human rights lawyer Malcolm Omirhobo over a post he made about him on social media.

Omirhobo had called on Nigerian authorities to arrest and investigate Sheikh Gumi for his open defence of bandits and terrorists in the country.

Reacting, Gumi urged the lawyer to withdraw the statement and tender an apology or risk facing litigation for calling him a terrorist. However, Omirhobo clarified that he never called the cleric a terrorist but only called for him to be probed.

Based on the lawyer's response, Gumi announced that he won't be proceeding with a litigation action against Omirhobo. This was as he explained his role with killer herdsmen.

He shared on Facebook, "Court action. The clarification by Chief Malcolm Emokiniovo Omirhobo clears the matter. It's not defamation but a call for investigation.

"Nevertheless, it's very disappointing that Chief Malcolm Emokiniovo Omirhobo, as a lawyer, is driven, maybe by prejudice or lazy intellectualism, to suggest that my investigation be conducted.

"Let it be clear to him and others like him that I never met herdsmen in their abode without the official company of the Nigerian police, local and state officials.

"I have the right to come up with my independent judgment and suggestions on how to end their conflict without recourse to whether the world would like to hear the truth or not.

"What I found out was a herdsmen armed revolt against the society from injustices meted out to them by the society, and they were fighting an existential war financed by ransom money collected from victims of their kidnapping.

"I also found out their willingness to stop all hostilities with assurance and guarantee of their safety and their cattle as opposed to the terror groups like Boko Haram and IPOB.

"This said, my case is closed."
