Social commentator Isaac Fayose says corruption has crept into Nigeria’s security architecture, making it impossible to confront the numerous challenges plaguing the sector.
He made the claim in a social media post that has since generated widespread reactions.
According to him, the higher Nigeria’s security budget, the more Nigerians are killed, citing the increases in the defence budgets of 2023, 2024, and 2025.
“Guys, check out our budget for the last three years — 2023, 2024, 2025 — our defence budget, the money the government allocates to protect you and me from these problems. Every year, the budget keeps going up. 2023 was high, 2024 higher, and 2025 in trillions. But the more the budget increases, the more the killings in our country,” he said.
“The more money they release, the more people are killed. That tells you that corruption has taken over. Corruption is our major problem and the reality we’re facing right now.”
His comments come after U.S. President Donald Trump insisted that Christians were being killed in Nigeria, contrary to claims by the Federal Government.
In a video uploaded by the White House on X, Trump alleged that the attacks posed an existential threat to Christianity in the country.
He said “thousands and thousands” of Christians were being killed, blaming “radical Islamists” for what he described as a “mass slaughter.”
