Benin Republic midfielder Junior Olaitan has apologized to fans of Göztepe after exchanging shirts with Victor Osimhen following his side’s defeat to Galatasaray.
Olaitan came up against Osimhen’s Galatasaray side last weekend in the Turkish Süper Lig, in a game his team lost 3–1 to the Turkish champions.
Osimhen, as usual, continued his impressive goalscoring form, finding the net in the 19th minute to draw his team level after the away side had taken the lead in the 6th minute.
Olaitan, who came off the bench in the second half, has come under severe backlash from Göztepe fans after he swapped shirts with Osimhen following the game.
The Cheetahs midfielder has since taken to social media to apologize to the fans.
“I have a long-standing friendship with Osimhen, who hails from Lagos, Nigeria. We met again years later and exchanged our jerseys.
I offer my apologies to everyone for having done something that goes against the culture of this club.”
