Former Barcelona defender Dani Alves has become a preacher after being acquitted of sexual assault, following 14 months in prison.
The former Brazilian international, who was acquitted in March this year, has gone viral after images of him preaching at Iglesia Elim in Girona, Spain, surfaced on social media.
The 42-year-old shared a testimony about how he made a pact with God to release him from prison in exchange for his service to encourage the congregation to have faith in God.
"You have to have faith in God. I am proof of that. I made a pact with God," Alves exhorted the congregation.
Despite the overturning of his sexual assault conviction by Catalonia’s High Court, prosecutors have appealed to Spain’s Supreme Court.
Dani Alves is the second most decorated footballer of all time, with 44 trophies — only behind his former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi, who has 46.
The former right-back won six La Liga titles, three UEFA Champions League trophies, and four Copa del Rey titles, making him one of the most successful players in Barcelona’s history.
He also won titles with clubs such as Sevilla, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and the Brazilian national team.
Dani Alves has become an evangelical preacher at a Girona church after being acquitted for sexual assault, following a 14-month stay in jail.
