The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has urged traditional worshippers to do away with dirty shrines because the gods are not happy.
This was as he shared a photo of a shrine on Facebook, describing it as unpleasant-looking.
According to him, there are better ways to remember the ancestors, just as he prescribed the use of beautiful flowers and perfumes.
He wrote, "Can anyone be proud to say, This is where and how I honour my Father's and Forefathers... are our forefathers really dirty or do they belong to the dustbin???? I believe there are better ways to remember our ancestors, like ododo eye( Beautiful flowers) oorun didun(perfumes) and prayers for them.
"Let all patriotic and good-loving Sons and Daughters of Yorubaland dismantle all dirty shrines in honour of our forefathers like Sango, Ogun, Obatala, Osun, Esu, etc, and make it clean because they are not happy with you and they are laying curses on you for remembering and honouring them in this way.
"Omo yio sebe fun yio di eru ibanuje le e lori( your children and grandchildren will pay you back by placing garbage and dirt on your head)."
