Why I respect Islam - Reno Omokri

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has said he has respect for Islam because its adherents don't fight over the property of their deceased loved ones.

In a Facebook post, Omokri also revealed that the religion has made provisions for how adherents can maintain personal hygiene and how to relate to family members, among other things.

He shared, "It is rare to find that a Muslim has died and his children are fighting over his property. Why? Because Islam makes provision for the sharing of a deceased Muslim's assets. That is one reason why I respect Islam. From birth to death, the religion gives clarity to its adherents.

"How to sleep and wake up, how to use the bathroom and toilet, and other issues affecting personal hygiene. How to dress and what to eat. How to relate with family according to age, gender, and role. How to fraternise with neighbours and strangers. How to eat. How to make, handle, lend, gift, and request money. How to sell in the market and how to bargain.

"Islam helps simplify the life of Muslims by automatically making decisions for them ahead of time, so they can free up mental energy and focus it on their personal and familial fulfilments.

"And there are similar benefits in Christianity and Judaism as faiths, including the Ten Commandments, which help in preserving social order, by providing a framework to love God and to love your neighbour as yourself.

"There is also the example of Yeshua's (Jesus) selfless and sacrificial life and His teachings about loving your enemies and using one's talents instead of buying them, amongst other things.

"In my opinion, Nigeria would be a better place if we could adjust our academic curricula such that Muslim pupils compulsorily take Christian Religious Knowledge and Christian students mandatorily study Islamic Religious Knowledge.

"The more we learn about each other as a people, the more we will live in peace, harmony and prosperity as a nation, and be a good example of peaceful religious coexistence to humanity."
