Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has accused the police of firing teargas at a crowd gathered to protest against the detention of his client.
Kanu is being held by the Department of State Services (DSS) as he faces charges bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony.
MyNigeria reported that political activist Omoyele Sowore called for a protest for Kanu's release, scheduled for today in Abuja.
According to Kanu's lawyer, Ejimakor, while he and a mammoth crowd gathered for the protest, they were teargassed by the police.
In a video he shared, he said he and the crowd were waiting for their leader, Sowore.
Ejimakor posted, "I’m in front of Transcorp Hilton with a mammoth crowd that gathered for #MNKOct20 and the police just exploded teargas. My eyes and throat hurt. They’re scattering everywhere."
