One Mr. Chibuike Azubuike, who proclaimed himself as the Obi of Lagos, has tendered his unreserved apology to the Oba of Lagos State, Federal Government of Nigeria, the government, and the good people of Lagos State for his unguided proposal to hold New Yam Festival which was scheduled to take place on Saturday the 13th of September 2025 at Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State.

MyNigeria reported that Azubuike and three others were arrested by the Lagos State Police Command after multiple complaints were forwarded concerning his event.

In his apology letter published in a national daily, Azubuike said the caption of Obi of Lagos seen in the flyer of his New Yam festival event was a typographical error from the print man.

"My decision to cancel this New Yam Festival is voluntary, and I'm not coerced by whatever means; rather, my realisation of what such sensitive publications will send to the general public, as one who is trying to divide the kingdom of our Reverend Oba of Lagos.
2005.

"I therefore undertake to be of good conduct henceforth and to join hands with the people of my host community in developmental ideas that can set the state on a good pedestal," he said.

He also dismissed claims that his move was politically motivated, stressing that "I'm not a politician, and even if I have the intention of joining any political party in the near future, I should join the ruling All Progressives Congress to ensure that the state moves forward."

"Once again, I apologise for my actions," he concluded.
