Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has filed a ₦1.5 billion lawsuit against activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju over alleged defamatory statements made against him on social media.
The suit, lodged at the Anambra State High Court in Onitsha, seeks a judicial declaration that Adeyanju’s comments about Obi were “false, baseless, malicious, reckless, scandalous, and defamatory.”
Obi is also asking the court to compel Adeyanju to issue an unreserved public apology, both on his social media pages and in three national newspapers.
The court filing further requests an order directing Adeyanju to immediately delete all offending posts from his verified social media handles — including X (@adeyanjudeji), Facebook, and Instagram — where he allegedly described Obi with derog@tory terms such as “leader of a m%b,” “religi%us big%t,” “fr@ud,” “sc¥m,” “political fr@ud,” and “political pr%stitute.”
Additionally, Obi is seeking a perpetual injunction restraining Adeyanju or his associates from publishing any further def@matory material about him.
He is demanding ₦500 million in aggravated or exemplary d@mages for what he described as malicious and persistent def@mation, and ₦1 billion in general d@mages for the emotional distress, ridicule, and reputational h@rm allegedly caused by Adeyanju’s statements.
