Nigeria not facing Christian genocide but terrorism that targets everyone - Sunday Dare

Sunday Dare Sunday Dare

Presidential spokesperson, Sunday Dare, has said Nigeria is not facing Christian genocide but terrorism that targets everyone.

This was after US Senator Ted Cruz lamented the Christian massacre in Nigeria, including the destruction of Christian establishments in the country.

He shared on X, "Since 2009, over 50,000 Christians in Nigeria have been massacred, and over 18,000 churches and 2,000 Christian schools have been destroyed.

"It is the result of decisions made by specific people, in specific places, at specific times—and it says a great deal about who is lashing out now that a light is being shone on these issues."

According to Cruz, the United States knows who those people are, "and I intend to hold them accountable."

Reacting, Dare accused Cruz and others behind the Christian genocide claims of peddling falsehood that emboldens extremists.

He wrote on X, "Senator Ted Cruz and Bill Maher et al would do well to engage with the facts before amplifying falsehoods that embolden extremists and malign an entire nation. Nigeria deserves solidarity in its fight against terror — not careless rhetoric that fuels misunderstanding. The truth remains simple: Nigeria is not witnessing a Christian genocide; it is confronting terrorism that targets everyone."
