Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has expressed immense joy after scoring his first goal for the Super Eagles.

The 25-year-old found the back of the net on the stroke of halftime, helping Nigeria secure a 1–1 draw against South Africa in their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, September 9, at the Free State Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

Bassey met a cross from Bright Osayi-Samuel on the right flank, heading home to cancel out an earlier own goal by William Troost-Ekong.

After the match, Bassey took to social media to celebrate the moment and reaffirm the team’s commitment to securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“Honoured to wear this shirt and score my first goal. We didn’t win but we keep believing, if anyone can do it, it is God,” he wrote.

Bassey has now earned 32 caps for the Super Eagles.
