2026 WCQ: 'We have already beaten Nigeria' — Rohr fires warning to South Africa

Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr has expressed confidence in his team’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Cheetahs significantly boosted their qualification campaign with a commanding 4–0 victory over Lesotho on Tuesday, September 9.

The win propelled Rohr’s side to second place in Group C with 14 points—just three points behind leaders South Africa—with two matches remaining.

Rohr, a former technical director of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, believes Benin can overtake South Africa to top the group or qualify as one of the best second-placed teams.

“There are two games left and anything is still possible. With 14 points now, we have the chance to finish first in the group, but also to be among the best runners-up,” Rohr said.

“We absolutely must continue on this path. The team has become balanced; it no longer concedes goals. It fights together.

“We remain hopeful without falling into excessive optimism. We know it will be difficult. We know Rwanda; we have already beaten Nigeria here. So yes, anything is possible.”
