The Bafana Bafana of South Africa have ended Nigeria’s World Cup hopes after holding the Super Eagles to a disappointing 1–1 draw at the Free State Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
The home side started the game on the front foot, forcing an own goal from William Troost-Ekong in the 25th minute.
The Super Eagles equalized on the stroke of halftime with a towering header from Calvin Bassey.
The second half failed to produce any goals, as Bafana Bafana held on to a crucial point to boost their chances of securing a ticket to next year’s Mundial in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
South Africa now moves to 17 points in Group C with two matches left to play.
Nigeria remains in fourth position with 11 points.
