In a move that highlights the success of Lagos State's public transportation initiatives, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu paid an unexpected visit to Marina Train Station to mark the second anniversary of the Blue Line Rail. During his visit, the governor joined passengers on a train ride, engaging with commuters and sharing insights about the state's future plans for transportation.
Since its launch two years ago, the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line has proven to be a significant success under the management of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). The service has maintained an impressive 99% uptime, ensuring reliable transportation for Lagos residents.
Key achievements over the past two years include the safe movement of over 5 million passengers, the implementation of electronic ticketing systems for revenue protection, and a notable reduction in travel time with trains now running on a strict 10-minute schedule. Additionally, train frequency has increased to 90 trips per day, providing greater convenience for commuters.
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised LAMATA staff for their commitment to maintaining the quality of the train service. He also commended Lagosians for their cooperation and support throughout the journey, emphasising the administration's commitment to improving urban mobility.
