A group from the North-East called Bring Back Our Goodluck has issued an apology to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, addressing previous claims that accused him of supporting Boko Haram.

During a press briefing in Maiduguri, the group’s leader, Grema Kyari, revealed that they were misled by a former American president and some Nigerian politicians, which led to their efforts to remove Jonathan from office in 2015.

Kyari, who hails from Borno State—a region heavily affected by insurgency—stated that they now see Jonathan as a man of integrity, compassion, and a strong sense of national duty. They also praised him as a democratic leader who prioritised the nation’s interests.

Meanwhile, human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has stated that calls for Jonathan to contest the 2027 election are distractions, as the former president is not interested in contesting the election.

He wrote, “GEJ is not interested in running for president in 2027. That chapter is closed. Anything you hear about GEJ is a distraction.”

Also, former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, advised the former president against calls for him to get the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said, “But I advise him not to do that. The reason is very simple: the PDP he used to know is not the PDP now.

“The PDP in the South-West is endorsing the president. Some members of the party are in the coalition. So, it is the party he used to know so he shouldn’t waste his time."
