The Ondo State Government has unveiled plans to introduce a mobile application designed to curb the spread of fake news across the state.
Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Akure, the state capital.
He explained that the initiative aligns with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s digital agenda to tackle misinformation while enhancing government–citizen engagement.
“The app will help combat fake news, facilitate opinion polls, gather news from the grassroots, and serve as a feedback mechanism for the public,” Ajanaku said in the statement signed by the ministry’s Information Manager, Abiodun Omotoso.
The commissioner further noted that the state government will soon roll out additional strategic initiatives aimed at promoting ethical values, strengthening media relations, and fostering inclusive governance.
As part of the plan, Ajanaku disclosed that a statewide campaign against social vices will be launched, engaging stakeholders such as market women, students, religious leaders, traditional rulers, NGOs, and civil servants to drive what he described as a “moral rebirth.”
“The campaign against social vices will be all-inclusive, involving market women, students, religious leaders, traditional rulers, NGOs, and civil servants, to ensure a statewide moral rebirth,” he added.
He noted that outstanding indigenes who have excelled in their various fields will be unveiled as “Omoluabi Ambassadors of Ondo State” to serve as role models for others.
In a related development, Ajanaku confirmed that the state government has approved the purchase of a state-of-the-art transmitter for the Ondo State RadioVision Corporation (OSRC) Television, a move that will improve signal reach and fast-track the station’s inclusion on DSTV.
To further enhance communication with the people, the commissioner said adhoc media officers will be deployed across the 203 wards in the state as grassroots correspondents to ensure citizens’ voices are heard.
Ajanaku reiterated the administration’s commitment to delivering on its OUR EASE agenda, assuring that the dividends of good governance will soon be evenly felt across all localities.
“This is a new dawn for Ondo State,” he said.
