Sudan forward Abdel Raouf Yagoub playfully teased the home-based Super Eagles after their Group B clash at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Kwesi Appiah’s team delivered an impressive 4-0 victory over Nigeria at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar on Tuesday night, August 12. The match highlighted some clear weaknesses in the Nigerian side.
Yagoub’s shot was deflected into the net by Leonard Ngenege for Sudan’s opening goal in the 25th minute. Walieldin Khdir then converted a penalty just before halftime, making it 2-0. In the second half, Yagoub scored twice more, sealing a remarkable win.
After the game, Yagoub openly shared his thoughts on Nigeria’s performance.
“They are very slow on the ball and their recovery rate is very poor — that’s what we capitalised on. Their defence made a lot of mistakes, their strikers are slow, and when our coach said all we needed was quick contact play and to get the ball into the 18, we executed it perfectly.”
Sudan is now at the top of Group D with four points from three matches. Their focus shifts to their final group game against defending champions Senegal, where a draw would be enough to guarantee a spot in the quarter-finals.
