President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong appeal to Nigerian digital content creators, influencers, and young innovators, urging them to act with integrity, responsibility, and patriotism in shaping the country’s future.

The president made the remarks on Friday, August 1, while addressing participants at the Digital Media Summit in Abuja.

During the event, Tinubu stressed the rising influence of new media in national development.

Tinubu: Young innovators are building the future

Speaking at the event themed Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development, President Tinubu said the digital space has become a powerful force for civic engagement and economic opportunity.

“You are not waiting to be invited into the future. You are building the future,” the President declared.

Tinubu: Use influence for unity, not division

The president urged creators and online influencers to think beyond likes and trends, and instead use their platforms to inspire, employ, and unite others, Vanguard reported.

“Build businesses that employ others, create content that uplifts, and use your influence to foster unity, not division. Verify before you amplify," Tinubu said.

He warned that unchecked content and misinformation could harm national cohesion and security, and called for a renewed commitment to truth and accountability in digital spaces.

Patriotism is action, not performance, says Tinubu President

Tinubu also reminded the audience that patriotism is not about slogans or political drama, but about tangible contributions to nation-building.

“Every app you design, every story you tell, every brand you build, is a statement to the world about who we are and what we stand for as a nation,” he said.

Tinubu: FG committed to digital growth, safety

The president reassured the tech and creative community of his administration’s ongoing support, including investments in digital infrastructure, innovation funding, and internet accessibility, Nation reported.

“That is why we are making strategic investments in digital infrastructure and broadband expansion. Access to the internet must not be a privilege for the few,” he noted.

He also emphasised the government’s efforts to secure Nigeria’s cyberspace:

“Trust in digital spaces is crucial for inclusive growth. We are committed to protecting Nigerians both physically and digitally.”

Tinubu used the recent victory of Nigeria’s Super Falcons as a symbol of resilience and national pride. He challenged young Nigerians to rise to the moment and lead by example.

“Let your leadership be defined by integrity. Let your digital footprint reflect the best of our nation. Let your actions speak of a generation that did not wait for permission to lead,” he said.
