Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has expressed her concern over the tragic killing of two Nigerian traders in South Africa by gunmen.
In a statement shared by NiDCOM spokesperson Abdur-Rahman Balogun, she shared that the Nigerian High Commission in South Africa is actively looking into the situation.
She also highlighted that the early warning systems designed to prevent such incidents by both countries have not yet been fully implemented by South Africa.
Dabiri-Erewa extended her heartfelt condolences to the families of those affected, reassuring them that justice will eventually be served.
It was reported that two Nigerians, identified as Austin and Ayo, were tragically shot and killed by masked gunmen in Durban, South Africa.
According to reports, the gunmen stormed into Austin’s office, shooting him and his visitor, Ayo, at close range, resulting in their untimely deaths.
She called for calm among Nigerians in South Africa and encouraged everyone not to take the law into their own hands while awaiting a thorough investigation by the South African police.
She also mentioned that the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner in South Africa has demanded a complete and fair investigation into this distressing incident.
