Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has addressed criticism over his continued interest in signing players from London rivals Chelsea, following the arrival of Noni Madueke.
The Spanish tactician has faced backlash from sections of the Arsenal fanbase after making Madueke the eighth player to switch from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates.
The move has drawn comparisons to Raheem Sterling’s underwhelming loan spell at Arsenal last season, with some supporters questioning the club’s recruitment strategy.
Arteta, however, defended the decision, highlighting quality over club affiliation.
“Probably because they have some great players—and a lot of players,” Arteta explained.
“We try to focus on the players we want to sign, regardless of the club.”
“With Noni, very excited. He needs a break now, but he will be with us soon, showing what he's going to bring to the team.”
