Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has reacted to the recent trend of renaming higher institutions after deceased former leaders in Nigeria.

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu renamed the University of Maiduguri after the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

A few weeks ago, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State renamed The Polytechnic, Ibadan, after the late Omololu Olunloyo, despite protests from students of the institution.

Over a decade ago, students of the University of Lagos rejected a move by former President Goodluck Jonathan to rename their school after the late MKO Abiola.

Reacting to the trend of schools being renamed after past leaders, Shehu Sani said that a time will come when there will be no more institutions to rename.

He shared on X, "One day all our Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education would be named after someone; when exhausted, then two people will be sharing one."
