Benue State is currently abuzz with the arrival of prominent politicians and government officials ahead of President Bola Tinubu's visit to the state.

The President is scheduled to visit Benue on Wednesday to commiserate with victims of the attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

MyNigeria reported that over 200 people were killed by the assailants, who also burnt properties and displaced thousands.

According to the Presidency, Tinubu will visit the state to assess the situation and provide a lasting end to the bloodshed.

In a statement on Tuesday, Presidential spokesperson, Sunday Dare, said Makurdi, the Benue State capital, is gradually filling up ahead of the visit.

He said, "Retired Generals, Serving and Retired Politicians, former and Serving Ministers, serving and former federal lawmakers, notables, community leaders, businessmen of Benue origin, academics, civil society leaders, youth leaders, APC leaders and other party leaders are on ground. Political appointees also.

"This time, a renewed commitment to stopping the blood letting and finding a lasting solution seems on hand. They have come around because they also believe that President Tinubu will engage and ensure that peace returns."
