Eight trucks have been gutted by fire along the Ogun State section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the incident happened on Wednesday at 3pm, when a tanker carrying an estimated 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) lost control while attempting a U-turn opposite the NASFAT Islamic Centre along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

NEMA said the vehicle overturned and subsequently exploded, adding that the resulting fire spread rapidly, affecting at least eight other trucks—some of which were transporting gas and vegetable oil, both highly flammable materials.

Upon receiving the alert, NEMA immediately activated fire responders and deployed a rescue team from its Ibadan Operations Office to the scene.

The response was led and coordinated by the NEMA South West Zonal Director, Mr. Saheed Akiode, who confirmed that the fire has been brought under control.

"Two individuals sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital for medical attention. No fatalities have been reported at this time.

"The gridlock caused by the incident has eased off and the road reopened for vehicular movement.

"Agencies that responded to the incident include NEMA, the Nigerian Police Force, the Ogun State Traffic Management Authority (OGSTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Ogun State Fire and Safety Service, which deployed personnel from its stations in Isheri, Sagamu, and the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG)," NEMA said.
