Tinubu signed into law the bill establishing the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, thereby upgrading the 46-year-old polytechnic to a full-fledged university.
This was announced by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday.
The bill, which was sponsored by the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Olamilekan Adeola, passed its third reading in October 2024.

“We are grateful that this administration is giving rightful recognition to our education sector. As we all believe, education is the best legacy. Hence, this is a milestone development towards leaving an everlasting legacy for history to have something remarkable to take note of,” he said.
The monarch also appreciated Senator Adeola for his contribution to the development of Yewaland.
He urged the Federal Government and all relevant stakeholders to expedite the implementation and administrative process for the immediate take-off and smooth running of the upgraded institution.
