The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has said people use cheap data to insult Lagos on social media.
Wahab said this amid a campaign against the state by some netizens who lament that the state is smelling.
According to Wahab, residents have a part in whatever blame is being dished around because of their abuse and neglect of laws.
He said,“People buy N2 data and speak nonsense because of the democratic space. There are elites who convert parks and wetlands for private use and desecrate the environment. People troop into Lagos every day because of it’s prosperity, and by implication, Lagos has become a victim of its own prosperity. Our actions may hurt people, we are sorry but we have to do what we have to do.”
The commissioner said this days after announcing the arrest of two individuals for dumping refuse illegally in Lekki.
He said the suspects were then traced to a restaurant belonging to celebrity Cubana Chief Priest. The restaurant has since been sealed by authorities.
