Mrs. Rebecca Sharibu has celebrated the 22nd birthday of her daughter, Leah Sharibu, the Christian schoolgirl abducted by Boko Haram in 2018.
The birthday also signifies Leah's seventh in captivity.
She was one of the 110 students taken from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe State, on February 19, 2018.
She remains in captivity for refusing to deny Christ and accept Islam.
The other girls have since be released by the Islamist who abducted them.
Celebrating her daughter's 22nd birthday with a cake, Rebecca recalled that Leah was kidnapped shortly after they had a little birthday celebration for her.
She expressed the believe that the next birthday celebration will be done with Leah present.
In a video message shared on Thursday via Open Doors UK’s social media platform, Mrs. Sharibu expressed sorrow over the prolonged separation from her daughter.
She described the pain of her continued absence as deeply distressing, but expressed the believe that God is still able to bring Leah home.
She urged all who believe in justice and in the power of prayer to remember not only her daughter but others who remain in captivity for their religious beliefs.
