Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) marched to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Edo state on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, to demand a reversal of the results of the just concluded polls.

On Saturday September 21, Edo residents went to the polls to elect their next governor. At the end of the election, INEC declared Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the election.

He scored 291,667 votes to defeat his closest contender, Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, who polled 247,274 votes and Labour Party’s (LP) candidate, Olumide Akpata, with 22,763 votes.

Displeased with the outcome of the election, the PDP announced plans to head to court to contest the results released by the commission, claiming the polls were marred with irregularities.

In a video shared on social media, some residents and supporters of the PDP took to the streets to protest the results of the Edo election.

They held placards with messages such as, "INEC, give us our mandate back,” “APC stole PDP’s mandate and they must return it,” and “INEC, why did you manipulate the results?”
