Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has recounted his first meeting with former Barcelona and Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.
After 13 years since leaving Udinese, the 35-year-old Chilean international returned to his former club and now shares the dressing room with the Nigerian international.
Sanchez left Udinese to join Spanish giants Barcelona in 2011, where he spent three seasons before joining Arsenal in the Premier League. He later moved to clubs like Manchester United, Inter Milan, and Marseille before returning to Udinese this summer.
Speaking about his first encounter with the Chilean, Okoye disclosed that he is proud and privileged to share the dressing room with the two-time Copa America champion.
“I remember when he walked into the changing room for the first time, I was sitting on my chair, right at the beginning. So I looked up, stood right up, and shook his hand like I mean it is Alexis Sanchez. He is a legend of the game, not just a club legend at Udinese, but in the whole game. It’s a privilege and I’m proud to be able to work with a legend like Alexis Sanchez,” Okoye said as per Siempre Inter.
Okoye became Udinese’s first-choice goalkeeper following his impressive performance for the club last season, helping them avoid relegation from Serie A.
The 25-year-old is currently at the camp of the Super Eagles ahead of their upcoming AFCON qualifier match against Rwanda.
