Reactions have trailed a recent comment by President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga regarding his claims on the prices of food stuff.
This comes after Onanuga in a post responding to a Cable news report stated that the prices of yam, tomatoes and other foodstuffs are drastically reducing.
Posting on X, he wrote: “Food inflation is coming down as prices of yam, tomatoes decline massively.”
According to the report, a big basket of tomatoes in Ketu market is currently selling for about N55,000 to N60,000 — down from an average of N150,000 a few months ago.
He said a large basket of habanero pepper (rodo) is now selling for an average of N25,000, compared to N55,000 at the peak of the price surge.

This is really silly. Are the prices reverting to the pre-subsidy removal rates? If something costs N50 and then wemt up to N150 due to inflation. If it crashes to N80 is that “coming down”?
