Members of the House of Representatives have committed to donating 50 percent of their salaries for a period of six months to support the country in addressing its hunger crisis.
During a plenary session on Thursday, July 18, 2024, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu urged his colleagues to make the sacrifice of giving up 50% of their salaries.
He said, “This government is doing its best but one year is not enough to address the challenges of this country. I want to plead with our colleagues to sacrifice 50 per cent for a period of six months.
“Our salary is N600,000 a month. I want to plead that we let go of 50 per cent of our salary for a period of six months,” Kalu said.
With each member contributing N300,000, the legislative chamber will amount to N108 million in one month and N648 million in six months.
