Former Super Eagles assistant coach Usman Abdallah has made a shocking statement regarding the vacant coaching role at the national team.
In a candid statement, Abdallah asserted that no current Nigerian coach, either at home or abroad, has the requisite pedigree to coach the Super Eagles.
Abdallah's statement comes after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced it was considering hiring a foreign coach following Finidi George's resignation last month.
The Super Eagles have been without a coach since Finidi George stepped down from his role following disappointing results in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
The NFF has decided to hire a foreign coach for the team, with names like Herve Renard, Marc Brys, and Francisco Conceicao being linked to the vacant role.
There are also reports of a possible return for former coach Jose Peseiro.
Abdallah, who was part of Jose Peseiro's assistants, believes the NFF should hire an expatriate coach as long as they can afford their wages.
"It doesn't bother me whether the NFF is considering bringing Jose Peseiro back or if they want to hire Hervé Renard as the Eagles coach, as long as they can afford to pay their salaries," he said.
"The issue is, I've heard people say they don't want us to spend money on a foreign coach but show me a Nigerian coach qualified for the Eagles job, whether at home or abroad. The fact is, we don't have one. The only person we have is Salisu Yusuf, whom many people don't want due to past issues, but I don't want to argue about that. Nigerian coaches have always served as assistants, and none of us can argue that we were better than those we've worked with."
