President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Ms. Claudia Sheinbaum on her victory as she wins the presidential election to become the first female President of Mexico.

On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, President Tinubu in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Neglale, extended his congratulations to the Mexican people and called for the strengthening of bilateral ties between both nations.

The statement reads;

“The election of Sheinbaum accents the voices of women in government and shatters political glass ceiling.

“It sends a reverberating message across the world that women must not only be participants but principal architects in shaping and implementing decisions affecting the lives of many,” said Tinubu.

Sheinbaum won the 2024 presidential election in Mexico after beating her closest rival by a landslide to become the first female President in the country since its independence in 1821.

Claudia Sheinbaum is a 61-year-old climate scientist and former Mayor of Mexico. In the preliminary results from the electoral authority, she polled 58.8% of the votes with 82% of the ballots counted.

Her historic victory states that Sheinbaum won the highest vote percentage in the history of Mexico's democracy.
