Doyin Okupe, former Director-General (DG) of the Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign in the 2023 election, has expressed admiration for President Bola Tinubu and his style of governance.

He stated, "No administration in Nigeria has ever faced the challenges that President Bola Tinubu has overcome."

The former ally of Peter Obi, who spoke in an interview on Channels Television's 'Political Paradigm', commended Tinubu for his sacrifices in building a better nation, even if it requires initial pain before progress.

"I greatly admire Tinubu. He asked the people to vote for him and trust him with this task. He takes responsibility. I admire a man like that. Despite facing challenges, he doesn't just complain about the past administration but actively works to make changes. He may not have succeeded yet, but he is fighting and I believe he can succeed."

In his analogy, he compared Tinubu, the 16th and current President of Nigeria, to Jesus Christ of Nazareth, highlighting Tinubu's efforts to uplift a nation in despair.

"In a similar way to Jesus Christ volunteering to be crucified for the world, Bola Tinubu has volunteered himself to lead a nation facing economic and financial crises. He is trying to lead the nation out of this difficult situation and into prosperity," he explained.

Okupe also addressed critics who questioned Tinubu's achievements in his first year as the leader of the most populous African nation.

Assessing President Tinubu's performance in his first year in office, Okupe stated, "No reasonable person should judge Bola Tinubu based on one year of performance. He is commendable for stepping up to lead Nigeria after the Buhari administration. You cannot assess this administration based on just twelve months."

Some Nigerians on social media have also shared their opinions on Okupe's comments.

@AsuAsuquo: The truth is that every other Gladiator's knows what Doyin Okupe is saying, but they were just trying to test their popularity during and after the election! PBAT is the master of them all when it comes to the game of politics in Nigeria and He will succeed!

@Emperorceehay: To the Lord be the glory. I believed in Bola Armed Tinubu, I still believe in PBAT.

The opposition knows that he would perform, what we're seeing on social media is a result of "opposition must talk" mantra.

@esteemkuti: It was the point where he said that GEJ told him that he pities whoever is taking over from him that I know this man speaks the truth. say all you like about Buhari, Buhari inherited a financially bankrupt government from GEJ with Boko Haram oil theft at its highest. FAAC not paid.

@agupard_a: One year is not enough; in 2027 they’ll tell you that 1 tenure is not enough to assess him.

6 months into Obasanjo’s administration, the entire world had begun to attest to positive changes going on in Nigeria.

@laygmusic08: I don’t have a problem with Tinubu. But what I have problems with is him coming out to say he would continue where Buhari stopped .and he knows quite all right that Buhari was a total failure and still supported him till the end .which I don’t get
