Anger in Lagos as thugs compel residents with loads to pay a N100 levy before they can be granted access to the Yaba pedestrian bridge.

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, the Guardian Nigeria shared a video on its Instagram page of a thug refusing two women carrying loads from accessing the bridge until they paid N100 levy.

In the same video, pedestrians without loads were granted unrestricted access to the bridge.

The video had the caption, “In Yaba, Lagos State, individuals are imposing a fee of N100 on pedestrians carrying loads to use the pedestrian bridge, coinciding with the enforcement of laws against jaywalking in Lagos".

Residents are however, calling on the Lagos State government to address the issue.

In a publication sighted on Peoples Gazette, all attempts to reach Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s special adviser on media publicity, Gboyega Akosile, proved futile.

Some social media users also shared their thoughts.

@Danny_Youngeee: What better way to make money than this great strategy. Have police stand at both ends of the express road to arrest people crossing and then have boys collect N100 for people using the bridge.

This is how the man of steal intend to build Nigeria.
