First lady, Oluremi Tinubu has attracted the wrath of Nigerians on social media after she questioned the motive of Nigerians relocating outside the country.

In an interview with Arise Television, the first lady stated that most people who travel out of the country end up doing jobs they would not do in Nigeria.

She said; “Nigerians, we can help each other. The rate we are doing parties and all that, why don’t we use the money to help our neighbours until we can get on our feet.

And those are the things we have to look at. It's not that the government has to give food to everybody. I believe in social development and social investment for people who truly need it.

In the Bible, in the times of Jesus, it says the poor you will always have in the land. And it's for people who God has blessed to help the poor. But now you don’t even know who is poor. If they don’t ride a car, they will say they are poor. If you don’t have your own home, they say you are poor.

Even all those saying they are going to japa, they go there, what work are they going to do? Work that you refuse to do at home, where you have loved ones, you end up going to do that. Even with all their education, they are driving cabs.

This is a holy month, as we are fasting, I pray that God will grant all your petitions and honour your prayers and forgive you whatever sins we may have committed,” Remi Tinubu said.

This enraged several Nigerians who trooped to social media to express their discontent about her remarks.

mazitundeednut: The money you make in driving cab abroad is never the same as driving cab in Nigeria. Ma, please don’t compare. Your husband moved abroad and stayed abroad for years too. He didn’t drive cabs. He made so much money, moved back home to do politics. There are so many people that Jakpa and make so much money abroad. 80% of people I know around me in America are ok. They might not be rich, but they are very ok. GOD BLESS NIGERIA ???????? Fix it ma!

omorosazuwa: I Jakpa 5 years ago and did the jobs I wouldn’t dare do in Nigeria, today I own 2 houses here and own an automobile dealership. Pls jakpa if you can.

nenejones_esq: My mum who now works in the U.S said the money she has made, working in the U.S. for one year, she couldn’t make it, working in Nigeria for 35 years. It hit different!

wendy_adammaaaaa: Why does the president goes abroad for medical check up ? Don’t they have good hospital here?

nikkidibbles: A cab driver in America is financially, emotionally and mentally well off than some doctors in Nigeria.

boudicca__london: Tell your kids to come back to Nigeria first

michaelz_edwardz: Not everyone in the UK, Canada or US are in 3rd tier jobs. Most are professionals and okay. However, there is dignity of labour overseas, even with a cleaning Job or security job, u can still pay ur bills and help ur siblings back home. Stop capping

teebeeoofficial: Mommy wa… First, your assertion that Nigerians are mostly doing menial jobs abroad is misguided. A little research would enlighten you to realize that Nigerians are actually some of the most educated and highest-earning immigrants abroad. Secondly, isn’t it a tacit indictment of your regime that your citizens are fleeing the country in droves to take up jobs they otherwise wouldn’t do in their own country? Anyways, on your mandate…

mr_dbbk: They will stop any day you and your husband stop going abroad for treatment, if the same job can b don there then the same treatment can be gotten there

amandachisom_: Stay where, no job, no electricity, no security, no guarantee. Leave them alone.
