The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme has been described as an opportunity for personal growth and development of the youths.

This is as the corps members have been charged to make use of the scheme to not only impact their host communities but also to transform themselves in the process.

This charge was contained in an address by the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed during the terminal parade official closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch C Stream II of corps members deployed to Osun State and dislogded from Lagos State on Thursday.

Represented by the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Agbor Ndoma Obim, Brigadier General Ahmed enjoined the corps members to embrace diversity and be responsible citizens of Nigeria.

The NYSC DG also charged the corps members to strive for excellence in their place of primary assignments.

He also urged the corps members to be ambassadors of unity and bringers of positive change in their states of deployment.

"As you prepare to leave this Orientation Camp and embark on your service year in Osun State, and Lagos State, I urge you to remember the lessons you have learned during this Orientation. Embrace diversity, be responsible citizens, and strive for excellence in your various places of primary assignment. You are now ambassadors of unity and positive change in Osun State, Lagos State and any State you may redeploy to for those of you going on redeployment.

"The social interactions and cultural exchange fostered unity and tolerance among our diverse Corps Members. This cultural diversity is one of the unique aspect of the NYSC programme that promotes national integration."

General Ahmed while reminding the corps members that their orientation had instilled in them discipline, team work and resilience added that these qualities would serve them well in their service year and beyond.

"You have been equipped with information on national issues, skills, and responsibilities that will guide you during the service year. The practical skills you have acquired through the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme will empower you to be self-reliant and contribute positively to your communities. Use these skills wisely to create opportunities for yourself and others.

"The social interactions and cultural exchange fostered unity and tolerance among our diverse Corps Members. This cultural diversity is one of the unique aspect of the NYSC programme that promotes national integration."

He also charged the corps members to embrace their service with enthusiasm, dedication and a commitment to nation building.
