Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has raised concerns over the decision of the judiciary to sack the Governor of Kano state, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Reacting to the verdict by the Appeal Court on Friday, November 17, Aisha Yesufu, said the judiciary is on the path of destroying Nigeria’s democracy.

A three-man panel of judges led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay nullified the election of Yusuf and declared the 165,663 votes of Yusuf invalid.

The court said the votes were invalid because they were not signed or stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Votes polled by the governor who contested under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, were then reduced to 853,939, while those of Nasir Ganuwa of the All Progressives Congress, APC remained at 890,705.

The Kano State Governorship Election Petition Court then nullified the election of Yusuf, while declaring the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Gawuna the true winner of the March 18 election.

Yesufu on X expressed disappointment at the judiciary’s verdict and said that their actions is gradually opening room for the illegitimate will to be exercised.

“The judiciary is really on the path to destroy democracy completely in Nigeria.

“In 2019 Kano people rejected APC yet rigged magic was done and now this again.

“When you take away the legitimate will of the people you open room for the illegitimate will to be exercised.
