'Where is Abdulrasheed Bawa?' - Rufai Oseni, Dr Abati asks; warns new EFCC Chairman

Arise Television Morning Show hosts, Rufai Oseni and Dr Reuben Abati have asked for the whereabouts of the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa after a new chairman was appointed.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Olanipekun Olukoyede as the Chairman of the EFCC, an appointment that has stirred controversy over the candidate’s qualifications for the job.

Many are of the view that Mr Olukoyede, a lawyer, is not qualified to be EFCC chairman under the law establishing the anti-corruption agency.

While the conversation continues to generate mixed reactions on social media, Dr. Abati and Rufai asked for the whereabouts of the past chairman who was dismissed following the swearing-in of President Tinubu.

"Number one thing I would want to talk about is concerning this new EFCC Chairman. I would like to ask, where is Abdulrasheed Bawa. Because we have seen this pattern, just like Emefiele, all we hear is that he has resigned. We also hear that Bawa has resigned. Where is the letter? Where is Abdulrasheed Bawa?" Rufni asked.

"And also for the news EFCC Chief, I would like to say this he should be careful the same whip that was used for the former wife is still there for the new wife and he should look at the antecedent of how EFCC bosses leave. Look at Bawa to Magu to all of them, he should be guided in his decisions. That is all I am going to say but I ask, Where is Abdulrasheed Bawa?"

Dr Reuben Nbnti on his part criticized the government for detaining Bawa indefinitely.

"The issue with Abdulrasheed Bawa is that Section 35 and Section 36 do not allow you to detain a man indefinitely. He has been detained indefinitely, what is his offense? If he has committed an offense, he should be charged to court."

"So I think the appropriate question should be, where is Abdulrasheed Bawa? He was made EFFC Chairman, okay, what exactly did he do that has warranted his continued detention."
