Game recognizes game - Ghanaian legend snubs Arsenal’s Partey, tips Napoli star Osimhen to win CAF Footballer of the Year

Former Ghanaian top striker Asamoah Gyan has tipped Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen to win the CAF Player of the Year award, Soccernet reports.

Osimhen has been spectacular in the last two years. The Nigerian striker joined Napoli from Lille in 2020 for a club-record €75million, but he had a slow start.

However, he picked up the pace two seasons ago, and he has been unstoppable since then. The 24-year-old hitman reached a whole new high last season.

Osimhen notched 32 goals in 38 games for the Partenopeans, helping them to their first Scudetto triumph and their first-ever quarterfinal finish in the Champions League.

The Super Eagles hitman has become a fans’ favourite in Naples, and his presence in the team makes them look very competitive.

Following Osimhen’s brilliance, top European sides like Bayern Munich, PSG, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City were linked to Osimhen, but they failed to agree on a deal.

The prestigious CAF Awards is scheduled for December, and the major attraction is the Men’s Player of the Year Award.

Osimhen is a key contender for the crown, but he has stiff opposition from the likes of Yassine Bounou, Mohammed Salah, Achraf Hakimi, and Riyad Mahrez.

Even though Thomas Partey had a good campaign with Arsenal last season, Ghanaian striker Gyan has snubbed his countryman to pitch his tent with Osimhen.

“Most players have done so well, but Osimhen has distinguished himself. For me, he deserves it”, Gyan told Brila FM.

“As a striker, he has done very well, and for the first time in 30 years, he won the league with Napoli, I think he deserves it.”

Asides from Gyan, former Arsenal star Emmanuel Adebayor has also tipped Osimhen to win the CAF award in December.
