A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Adetokunbo Pearse has noted that Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections would have handled the fuel subsidy removal differently.

This follows the growing dissatisfaction from Nigerians with the current administration's handling of the fuel subsidy removal.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Monday, August 14, Dr Pearse criticize President Tinubu's handling of the matter while noting that an Atiku Abubakar presidency would have handled things differently.

"If Atiku Abubakar had won the election and insisted on removing palliatives, it wouldn't have been removed the way it has been removed in a rushed manner without planning or discussion. This is what happens when you don't negotiate the plan, you don't interrogate people, you just announce and that is why we have the problem we have," he said.

"Now, he is running after and trying to make amends for the mistake he made. Atiku would not have done it this way. He would have said on the day of the inauguration that this issue of subsidy has to be reviewed and we are going to look into it in a way that will make it acceptable and not to uncomfortable for the people."
